Zakkiyah in a painting

Description

Zakkiyah is a good friend of mine. If you saw the two of us side by side you would think we have nothing in common. However we are almost always on the same wavelength.
When you see her beautiful head wraps you might think "Afro-centric", or "Nubian Princess". When you take the time to know her you see she celebrates ALL of her roots including Midwestern America.

I converted this image to sepia and added brush strokes. I felt the silhouette of this image was beautiful and the artistic conversions allowed it to sing.

Corey Anna,

Out of the three images you posted in your blog this one by far works the best. It is a beautiful image to start with, but this one has more of the painterly quality you are going for. The others seem too forced and fake. I would use this as a standard or starting point for now. I know it is a process to get these things figured out but you have done a great with this one.

The only think I would suggest changing here is the prominent glow that is around her. I like it, but right now I feel that it is too heavy and I would tone it down. This is something that is more of a personal call though; it's not like it's a focus problem or something like that. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)"/>

Good luck and keep it up!
